I've been keeping an eye on the Free-to-Play MMORPG scene for a while now.
Nothing too serious, just signing up for some accounts and dabbling. Now the Korean gangsters have my info! Just a little Simpsons reference there... I have nothing against Korean gangsters.
Arguably the most famous and successful of this breed* is the 2005 NCSoft release Guild Wars, which is still going strong, several stand-alone expansions later. I wont touch on SecondLife just yet, since SL isn't so much of a game as it is an online interaction space.
I haven't been completely smitten by any of the Free-to-play MMO games so far. Here are some, perhaps biased reasons:
